Top 10 Reasons to Scrub the Scrubber and Avoid a Landfill (in regards to Dairyland Power’s Genoa off-site plan)

  1. Devastating economic impact on our community, especially concerning land values and tourism.

  2. Displacement of homeowners, disruption of communities.  No more pitting neighbor against neighbor, township against township!

  3. Loss of productive farmland.

  4. Going from 85% recycling of coal ash to ZERO, plus producing 8-10 times more waste.

  5. Remove only 10-15% more sulfur but increase carbon emissions, i.e. increase pollution.  It’s a wash!  Is Dairyland’s plan in conflict with Governor Doyle’s new Energy Plan?

  6. Dairyland Power Cooperative’s mission statement talks about a “wise use of resources…”  Power the scrubber, buy the lime, haul the lime in, haul the lime coal ash out, create a waste dump, hmmm...Does this seem wise?

  7. Highway safety and maintenance issues.

  8. Potential negative environmental impact on the ground and water.

  9. Save $350 million dollars! Stop 11th hour reactionary plan and start a pro-active approach to the future. Cooperative members don’t want to pay for inadequate plans and lack of foresight. Look to new technology and recycling options.

  10. Haste makes waste!
