Carl and Marilyn Volden

We live on the end of Volden Lane in Harmony Township. Our home was the original homestead of Carl’s grandparents, Nels & Annie Volden.  Nels purchased this heavily wooded tract in 1895.  The original four room, two story house where the ten Volden children were born continues to be the center of our home today.  Our children are Derek and wife Lindsay, and Krista.

Carl & Dan continue to farm the Volden land with additional acres purchased in the 1960’s and 1970’s.   Land conservation practices have been the center of our farming methods.  Our farming partnership was awarded Wisconsin’s top Conservation Farm of the Year in 1985.  Our land and cattle have been certified for organic dairy production since 2002.

We have a deep love and respect for this land that has always been the “Volden Farm”.   Our children expect that they would have the same opportunity as we have had to live on this land and raise their families here.  As Krista says, “it’s who we are”.

The call that we received the evening of September 19, 2007 that this neighborhood was targeted to become a waste dump has left us all reeling.  We have since scrambled to our feet, joined hands with neighbors, friends and  a large network of supporters, and are determined to help find the RIGHT solution to this problem for now and future generations living on this land.
